VIRTUAL FRIENDS
Facebook is a place to find old friends and make new ones. But there is a catch to it. You can't get too friendly, because Facebook will force you to press the brakes around the 5,000-friends mark. The world's largest social networking website recently announced that it has over 500 million users and only a fraction of the half-a-billion actually have 5,000 friends.
While Facebook suggests that such popular people should open a fan page (that don't have a limit on followers), many have gone and opened another profile, ready for their next 5,000 friends. Interestingly, many of those who have hit the 5,000-friend ceiling aren't celebrities. We dug through Facebook to come up with a few members of this select club.
Faizah Ghadban- Kanda: This mother of six and grandmother of six from Ottawa, Canada has crossed the 5,000-friends mark. She asks her friends not to write to her in Arabic as she can understand only English.
Sarathbabu Elumalai: This IIM-Ahmedabad graduate created quite a buzz when he refused a plum job offer to start his own catering service. He had also contested as an independent candidate from the South Chennai seat in the 2009 general elections and also intends to contest in the 2011 Tamil Nadu assembly polls.
Sree Latha Nair: Employed as a manager with Perma Shipping Line, this mother-of-three hails from Johor Bahru in Malayasia.
